Students working together in a Pinehurst classroom

Foundational Core Curriculum

The core subjects of math and literacy are the foundation of the Pinehurst School curriculum. Each morning students spend focused time on these subjects, receiving direct instruction in small groups while also gaining practice during independent, self-regulated work time.

Our math instruction not only builds a foundation of strong conceptual understanding, but also prepares students to be flexible problem solvers that are able to collaborate with others and explain their thinking clearly. In ELA, students develop their reading, writing, and speaking skills in applied units centered around science and social studies topics. Our science of reading aligned approach centers background knowledge while also developing proficient readers and writers who can use these skills to actively engage with the world around them.
