Science comes alive at Pinehurst through hands-on experiments, nature study, and inquiry projects. Students develop critical thinking skills and a deep appreciation for the natural world right in our backyard — the Cascade Mountains.
Science Explorer's Club
Once a month students participate in Science Explorer's Club! Students have a strong voice in determining the theme for each club meeting with topics ranging from microscopes, to AI, to biometrics.
Ben Pellow spearheads the club where students ask questions, design experiments, collect data, and draw conclusions — just like real scientists. This experience has generated a lot of excitement around science and is a great addition to the day-to-day exploration built in to the Pinehurst curriculum.

Nature as Our Lab
Located in the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument — one of the most biologically diverse regions in the world — Pinehurst students have unparalleled access to outdoor learning. Field studies, nature journaling, and citizen science projects connect classroom learning to the living world. Getting out on the local trails with viewsheds overlooking our region help build a sense of place and appreciation of where we live. Our Spring 2025 production of The Wild Robot, gave students a chance to research their character animal and share that knowledge while performing for a community-wide audience.
